OZ The Great And Powerful. I was really looking forward to this when I first saw the trailer last year. For a moment there I thought this movie was actually a continuation from the Wizard of OZ back in the 60’s version. That was my first impression to it. Anyways, here is what it looks like with a little bit of its icing on it.
Oz, the so called great powerful and mighty wizard traveled into the land of Oz and freed its people from the clutches of evil witches. Traveled and trapped into time, Oz portrayed by James Franco, is none other than your typical fake playboy wizard who only performs for carnivals.
In the midst of escaping from getting beaten up by some muscular thugs, Oz managed to escape by using a hot air balloon. And during his escaped, well, he managed to take his bag with him. Then from here onwards, is where the real story begins. I remembered back then when I was watching the Wizard of OZ, Dorothy version, its good to see Disney still remained static with the ideas on using the tornado and transported him into the land of Oz.
Upon his arrival, everyone had high hopes on him to be that one powerful wizard who will save the land and freed its people as foretold by the prophecy. Along his way, he met with few characters such as the cute little China Doll. Despite her small and fragile sized, she was brave enough to confront the evil witches. Some did not like the idea on the China Doll as she looked like a Photo Shop or some kind of Movie After Effects software. Personally, I was not bothered by it. I still think the China Doll addition into the movie was what I called it as unique and gave the movie more live into it.
After doing some investigation, Oz met with Glinda. Glinda was a splitting imaged of the woman whom he fell in love with in his own world. He first thought she was from Kansas. Along the way, when Glinda saw Oz was not for real, she still wanted to have faith in him that he was the one to destine and saved the day.
Theodora too, fell in love with Oz. But after much convincing by her sister who was fooled by Oz and he was nothing more than a conman, Theodora was transformed into the ugly green colored wicked witch. Does her looks rings a bell to you all? Think hard and you will eventually find your answer to it.
Well, how did it end? From here onwards, you guys need to watch it for yourselves on how it ends. But of course, for a conman such as Oz, he came up with a lot of elements of surprises for the audience too. I say give it a try on this movie. It was still worth the watch. Here is a little hint, of you are still new to the Oz movie, then I suggest you pick up the classics before watching this one. Somehow after watching this, I felt like the old Oz movie ought to be revive back once more. Hopefully they will come up with a second one.
